3 Ways to See Your Dreams Come True

Do you feel that it's too late to see your dreams come true? Or are you overcome with doubt and scared of what people may think of you? Or is it the big one ’Fear of Failure’?

All of the above has happened to me and I know I'm not the only one. So today I am going to give you three simple steps you can take, and I promise you that you will be three steps closer to seeing your dreams awaken.

For many of us right now, we probably feel disappointed that the world has come to a stand still and all dreams seem far away from happening. If you're feeling tired and weary, I encourage you to start dreaming again or pick up dreams that have been laid dormant. I know this can be the hardest step to make, and that's why I don't want you to do it alone. Whatever you do, don't let what looks impossible stop you from moving forward. Most of the time your destiny lies behind what looks hard.

I say this purely because of my own personal experience. When my son passed away, I could never imagine having any kind of purpose in life... never mind dreaming! Even though I went to work and daily looked after my family, most of the time I was doing it because I had too. Until one day I had a thought of a way to make a few families smile on the NICU ward where Reuben died. We started to create care packages for the premature babies over the Christmas period. Promise of Hope was born! We are now in the process of it becoming its own charity. I also have a dream that my blogs will be a safe haven for those that are grieving from loss.

“Most of the time your destiny is hiding behind what looks hard”

I just want to remind you that dreams can change as we change. When I was 10 years old, I would dream that one day I would be a pop star. This is far from the dreams I have now! It would be my worst nightmare. So your first challenge is to know what your dreams are, and then these next few steps will really benefit you.

Step One: So my first step is crucial and that is ‘Letting Go’. What I mean by this is letting go of anything that may be holding you back. Shame is a monster, I hate meeting. Shame is a liar/thief, and is the first to steal away our passions and dreams. Shame is the voice that says you “didn't do it the right way” or reminds you of what you promised you would one day do. I'm getting quite good at kicking shame right in between the teeth, and out my life! If you're a visionary like me, you will know what it is to dream a lot and also not get it right a lot. Not everything works out the way we would like it, I have come to realise that I'm going to get it wrong. Sometimes I will dream so big and get way ahead of myself, and try to complete a lifetime task in just a few months. We need to let go of failure! Just because you tried and it didn't go how you thought it would, doesn't mean you're a failure. I would say you're courageous enough to dream, and take steps towards fulfilling it.The last thing I would say on this first step, let go of what didn't work out and try a new way to see your dream come to pass. Just because it didn't work the first time round, doesn't mean it won’t this time.

Step Two: “Fight for your Dreams”.There's always a reason why you shouldn't do something or why you can't do it. Most of you will know that you will be your own worst judge in this area. Humanly speaking, the way I see it, we all have an equal chance! The difference between you and someone who has made it, is that they tried. I need to remind you today, you will have what it takes if you just allow yourself to be confident. Confidence isn't pride - it's knowing who you are and whose you are. Therefore you know you can do all things through Jesus, because He has given you everything you need and you just need to access it. Do you really think your dreams were put there by accident? No way! I don't believe that for a second.

There’s a story that I love, which I think really resonates with us now in our current situation...

In this story the sun stood still, just so they could have more time in the day to finish the battle they were currently facing. I do wonder in the world's stillness right now, is there a call to fight for what we stand for and dream about? Especially for those businesses that are losing business, for those that dreamed to go travelling and now can't. This isn't the time to stand still, this is the time we fight for our dreams!

Step 3: My last, but definitely not least, would be to “Invest in your Dreams”. To see something happen, requires action. Your dreams won’t start without you, or they won’t even find you for that matter. You may be thinking “it's just not my time”. I believe there's a time for everything, but with dreams I think we can get lazy and use up hundreds of excuses. Even if you just took one small step into making your dreams happen -this could be investing your time or even money. Everything I have dreamt has cost me in some sort of way. For example, after losing Reuben, to start again, it hurt and it was so hard to believe in myself, or even God, to help me overcome my fears.

A beautiful story out of my favourite book gives us insight into what investment looks like. You will find this story in the Bible, the book of John Chapter 12.

The scene is set six days before the Passover Feast. Jesus came to the land of Bethany, where Lazarus lived. Lazarus was the guy Jesus had raised from the dead. A dinner was given at Bethany to honour Jesus. Martha served the food. Lazarus was among the people at the table with Jesus. Then Mary took about a pint of pure really expensive perfume and poured it on Jesus’ feet, while wiping them with her hair. The house was filled with the sweet smell of the perfume. Mary took her most expensive possession and poured it upon Jesus. Some may think this was a waste, and this is what Jesus’s disciple Judas also thought. He questioned why she would pour such an expense into something that didn't look that important. I'm afraid we are always going to experience that one person that doesn't agree or think your dream is worth the investment. Jesus was important to Mary, and you could say Mary's dream was to give every part of herself to God. She achieved this through one act of worship. Nothing stopped her investing in what she loved the most.

"Dreams are exciting to ponder upon, hard to start, but so damn worth it."
